Always looking for a win-win situation I applied for a Part Time Guide position over at the the Mahalo Greenhouse a couple of weeks ago. I woke up yesterday morning, 4 July, to find this in my inbox:
Welcome to the Mahalo Greenhouse! Please activate you account - Welcome, Joe Tao, Your application for the Mahalo Greenhouse has been accepted!
I must say that I was a bit surprised and happy to hear the good news. Just to be associated in any way with a startup of Jason Calacanis’ is good PR for ‘The Tao of Joe‘.
I wrote about Jason Calacanis’ latest venture, Mahalo, a couple of weeks ago here. I reported that it ‘reminds me of the original Yahoo directory back in 1994-95…’ which was a compliment. Back in 1994 and 1995 just about every website listed in Yahoo’s directory was spam free and contained quality content for its time.
As if learning that I had been accepted into the Mahalo Greenhouse wasn’t enough, Jason Calacanis emailed a formal welcome tonight with this incentive thrown in for all the Part Time Guides:
“I got an iPhone last week and it really is an amazing device. Like stunning. So, the first 100 PTGs who reach 100 accepted search results by the end of summer (let’s say September 1st) will get an iPhone. I know, it’s crazy… but we really want to add 10,000 search terms quickly so the service is more robust. Note: 100 *accepted* search terms is the goal here–they have to be high-quality, helpful search results that are *accepted* by the FTGs (fulltime guides). Also, pick the terms from the most wanted list.”
Anyhow, consider me a ’spokesblogger’ for Mahalo.com and please don’t accuse me of not revealing any commercial interests I might have with regard to this blog. ![]()
Good luck in your race for the iPhone, Joe!
And Congratulations on being accepted as a part-time Mahalo guide.
thanks mdy.
