A List Of Qualities and Attributes of ‘A List’ Bloggers

joe tao

I have a dream that one day I will be an A-lister. I am confident that, in time, I will arrive on the other shore. Why? Because first and foremost, if I don’t believe in myself why should you?

On top of this confidence I have a few other qualities going for me:

  1. Number one is I love to write in this particular medium…
  2. …and that love is seconded by my zeal for the medium itself.
  3. I still remember with excitement, the day I first logged onto the world wide web version of the internet and knew within moments (it was an ‘aha’ kind of moment) that my world, and yours, would never be the same. The internet would change everything, even more than the Gutenberg press changed the world 500 years before.

  4. The third thing I have going for me is a constant kind of internal pressure that is best defined as curiosity. I want to, I have to know: ‘Who, What, When, Why, How and Where.’ I have to know like a child has to know.
  5. Fourth but definitely not last is my desire to share this information with others.

As a result of these qualities, I often find myself researching what A-lister bloggers have to say about joining their ranks. I am fascinated by their stories and like to compare notes between their recommendations. One of my favorite bloggers is Robert Scoble and he wrote this post titled ‘Tips for joining the A list‘ way back in February 2006. He makes some excellent recommendations and upon further breakdown I came up with this condensed bulleted list:

  1. Make your post title interesting, grab the readers attention!
  2. Include ‘top search terms’ in the post title.
  3. Standout! Be different. You can’t do that if your blogs theme looks like everyone else’s.
  4. Add graphics, illustration and screenshots to your posts.
  5. What is your Blog’s title tagline? Give it personality, again you want to standout from the crowd.
  6. When posting, tag often. In Wordpress categories are tags, the more tags you use, the more likely someone will find you in a search engine.
  7. Make friends with other bloggers. Networking works!
  8. Show Passion!

I take Robert’s word for it and am applying his recommendations to my own blog.
